- Tina McBain & Phil Bates are making a welcome return to the live music scene
with the Eleanor Rigby Experience for a special Christmas concert at Tamworth's
Castle Hotel on 28th December. Full details below.......

THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS GIFT
PHIL BATES & TINA McBAIN
with
THE ELEANOR RIGBY
ACOUSTIC EXPERIENCE
plus a little bit more
WEDNESDAY 28TH DECEMBER 2005
Have you
ever found yourself having the blues during the time between
Christmas and New Year? Then this is the perfect antidote.
The Castle Hotel ‘Twixtmas’ happening.
Ladybank, Tamworth, Staffs. 01827 317700
Phil Bates
(ex ELOII and current member of Bev Bevan’s Move), fresh from three
nights at the NEC for one night only joins his colleague, Tina
McBain from the critically acclaimed Eleanor Rigby Experience for a
perfect night with an exquisite menu, good wines and a tremendous
atmosphere in a fabulous setting. The historic hotel has now been
bought by the former Banqueting Supremo, Tim Wedgwood, from the
world class Grosvenor Hotel in London's swish Park Lane. So he
knows a thing or two about the perfect wining and dining setting.
Phil Bates said 'The Eleanor Rigby project has been dormant for a
while now, simply because myself and Tina have had all sorts of
other commitments. My solo stuff and work with Bev Bevan's Move.
Tina is currently working for Bob Geldof so particularly this year
with the Live 8 et al, she hasn't had much time to spare. When we
realised that we would both be in Tamworth at Christmas, and the new
management at the Castle Hotel approached us, we thought it was just
too good an opportunity to miss.'
Tina commented 'I can assure you all that the meals are first class
since Tim Wedgwood arrived from the Grosvenor. His pedigree speaks
for itself. The set will include lots of ERE stuff and a healthy
dollop of Phil's solo material and a Philip is insisting we get
together to put some new material into the set. We are really
looking forward to seeing some of our old friends at this show.
Hopefully, the die-hards may even be able to spend the night in
Tamworth at the hotel. There is a special rate for guests of this
show so if you are considering staying overnight, call Nikki on
01827 317700 and tell her Tina said to call for the special musician
rate.'

- A stunning 4-track EMI acetate disk has just been auctioned on Ebay. I have
never heard of these particular tracks before. Final price was over £2,100. The
item description is as follows :
"THE MOVE : 4 track Acetate
All songs are otherwise unrecorded and unreleased!!
Emidisc
labels, no cat no, 1966 (?).
Tracklist:
You're the one I need/I know
your face/The fugitive/Winter song
This is a real rarity! Four otherwise
unrecorded Move songs on one 7" acetate! This is quite possibly a
unique one-off pressing, or else made in such extremely limited
quantities that it may as well be.
Each song was written by Roy Wood, and
each features a different lead singer: Chris (Ace), Carl, Trevor and
Roy, in that order - it seems Bev got left out! The first track is a
rip-roaring R&B/freakbeat tune, with tough guitar feedback, the
second is a more poppy, romantic number with great harmonies. The
other side starts with a Dylanesque pop song (with accordion!!)
and ends with a typical Roy Wood melodic pop tune. It comes in a
plain white card sleeve with annotations in the same hand as on the
labels".

- DJ Nigel Warin is an ardent ELO & Jeff Lynne fan, and it has
been a long-time ambition of his to create an ELO Megamix. So, recently, Nigel
has teamed up with John Falkner of Mastermix to produce a 79 minute ELO Megamix.
This is the first demo mix in what is planned to be a 2cd release.
The songs used on this first disk are -
Don't Bring Me Down / Confusion /
Livin' Thing / Night In The City / Evil Woman / Last Train To London / Sweet
Talkin' Woman / All Over The World / Four Little Diamonds / Do Ya / Danger

Diary Of Horace Wimp / Mr Blue Sky.
Please email me for further
details on this superb mix.

- The latest Marks & Spencer advert currently showing on tv here in the U.K.
features 'Mr Blue Sky' as the backing track. This extra coverage also seems to
be helping the 'All Over The World' collection to move back up the charts.

- The Sun Flower Orchestra may not be a well-known group, but back in
October 2003, they performed a live concert of E.L.O. songs at the Blue
Note club in Poznan, Poland. A totally Polish band, the songs are sung in
English but for me, the sheer quality of the songs makes this a stand-out
recording, especially the orchestral backing. Check out the
Soundclips page to listen to the bands' version of
'Love Changes All'.

Track listing - I'm Alive / Strange Magic /
Twilight / Telephone Line / Love Changes All / Can't Get It Out Of My Head /
Evil Woman / One Summer Dream / Turn To Stone / Moment In Paradise / Xanadu /
Shangri-La / Hold On Tight / Rock & Roll Is King.

surfaced in Japan recently. It features an audience recording of E.L.O.'s
gig at The Budokan, Tokyo, Japan on 22nd February 1978. This was the first gig
of the Asian leg of the bands 'Out Of The Blue' world tour. The sound quality is

Whilst I was watching a video of a Chuck Berry live concert at the BBC back in
1972, I noticed a 'familiar face' sitting in the background. Click on the
thumbnails below of some screen shots I took from the show to find out .

Well, is it or isn't it? Let me
know your thoughts.
