weeks sound-clip is a tribute to ELO Part 2's soon-to-depart member Phil Bates. The song
is called 'Tomorrow Belongs To Me' and was written by Phil whilst a member of the group
Trickster during the late 1970's / early 1980's.

13/12/1998 - Earlier
this week I came across a very unusual piece of ELO memorabilia for sale. It was a boxed
set of ELO Christmas tree baubles circa 1978!!!! The set comprised of 4 coloured baubles
(3 of each) with the classic ELO logo on them. The price quoted for this item was £150.00
($220.00) - unfortunately the item had been sold when I enquired about it.

12/12/1998 - Roy
Wood's Big Band will be performing live at the 'Porsche Oldies Night' in Stuttgart,
Germany on March 26th/27th 1999. The concert will feature many top groups from the 1960's
to the present day.

10/12/1998 -
Yesterday, December 9th, ELO Part 2 announced that following auditions held between 3rd
and 5th December, Los Angeles based musician Mr. Parthenon Huxley (who's real name is Rick
Miller) had agreed to join the band. He will replace Phil Bates who will be leaving the
group in mid-January 1999. Rehearsals with the new line-up will begin in mid-January and
the first concert will be held in Uruguay towards the end of February 1999.
07/12/1998 - Another
song has hit the U.K. singles chart which features samples from past ELO songs. The track
is called 'Because I Like It Like That (Ultimatum Mixes)' by the Jungle Brothers released
on Gee Street Records. Cat No - GEE 5003593. The song features samples from ELO's 'Don't
Bring Me Down'. This song follows the massive success of Cher's single 'Believe' which is
still at number 1 for the 7th week - this song featuring samples from the track 'Prologue'
from the album 'Time'.
06/12/1998 - I have added

06/12/1998 - Last
night on Radio 2 here in the U.K. there was a 1 hour special about the late Roy Orbison to
commemorate the 10th anniversary of his death. There were a few minutes featuring the
Traveling Wilburys which featured interviews with Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and George

21/11/1998 - I have
added an image of the new ELO video which has just been released in the U.S. but can be
obtained from on-line vendors such as Amazon.com , CD Now or CD Universe etc. The video
runs for over 100 minutes and features the classic ELO line-up performing at Wembley,
London in 1978 as part of the Out Of The Blue world tour. As a bonus, the video also
features the full set of Discovery videos for the first time on an official release.

21/11/1998 - This

15/11/1998 - The
soundtrack to the film 'Still Crazy' is now available here in the U.K. The film features
tracks co-written by Jeff Lynne but at the moment both the film and soundtrack are only
available here in the U.K. The two tracks Jeff Lynne is credited with co-writing are
'Dirty Town' (with Ian La Frenais) and 'A Woman Like That' (with Ian La Frenais and Rosie
Vela).
14/11/1998 - There
was a double treat for ELO/Roy Wood fans here in the U.K. today when Top Of The Pops 2
included performances by ELO - Evil Woman from January 1976 and Wizzard - See My Baby Jive
from December 1973. The ELO performance was very poorly edited from the original tv
performance but even so, it was great to see both songs on prime-time tv for once!!

08/11/1998 - I have
added a picture of a rare ELO belt buckle which was auctioned via e-bay last week - if you
don't already do so, then I suggest anybody who is interested in ELO should subscribe to
the alt.music.elo newsgroup straight away. As well as all the usual ELO chit-chat and
news, rare items like this ELO belt buckle which are made available for sale tend to be
advertised on the newsgroup first.

(removed January 2000), you will be able to view an image and track listing of
the latest ELO Part 2 live cd release from Germany called 'Livin' Thing' which is yet
another re-incarnation of the 'One Night Live In Australia' release.
07/11/1998 - This
weeks sound-clip features a track from Kelly Groucutt called 'Black Hearted Woman' taken
from his solo album 'Kelly' released back in 1982. Kelly is apparently re-recording all

are to be another few re-releases of classic ELO albums over the coming weeks. 26th
October 1998 sees the release of a 3CD set from Sony featuring the albums Discovery, Out
Of The Blue and Time. Catalogue number 4853402. 26th November sees a U.K. release for the
3cd set Afterglow. Catalogue number CD46090. Also released now on Minidisc are the albums
Greatest Hits Volumes 1 and 2. Catalogue numbers 4503578 and 4719568. All of the above are

are another couple of ELO releases to mention this week, one is a compilation of ELO
tracks called 'Livin Thing' released in Germany. The other release is a 2cd Westwood One
U.S. Radio Show Superstars In Concert release broadcast in July 1998 (week 30/98). This
set features all 11 tracks recorded by the BBC back in 1973.
03/10/1998 - This
weeks sound-clip features Kelly Groucutt from ELO / ELO Part2 and is a track called 'Am I
A Dreamer' taken from his solo album 'Kelly' released back in 1982. Note that this track
was supposed to appear 2 weeks ago, but due to 'technical difficulties' it never appeared.

27/09/1998 - Expected
towards the end of November is a DVD release for the Electric Light Orchestra called 'Live
At Wembley / Discovery' and is to be released on the Eagle Rock label - Cat No ID4560ER
and the disk running time is 102 minutes. This is the first official ELO release in this
new format but as yet track listing and what film footage is on the disk are not known

13/09/1998 - The
album 'Xanadu' has finally been issued in the U.S.A. with a much improved sound from the
Australian release from a few years ago. There are still a few misgivings even with this
release, including the lack of extra tracks and strangely, the cd sleeve credits the
release to Olivia Newton John only, no mention of ELO!!!
13/09/1998 - For
anybody after material by ELO-offshoot groups, including Orkestra featuring Kelly
Groucutt, Mik Kaminski and Hugh MacDowell, an advertisement in the October issue of Record

06/09/1998 - LATEST NEWS just in this
weekend and broken by J.K. on the ELO mailing list is the sad news that Phil Bates has
announced that he is to leave ELO Part 2 to pursue his solo career. The band say they are
to continue and are searching for a suitable replacement - this will take some doing and
along with the band, crew and all other ELO Part 2 fans, I'm sure we all wish Phil the
best for the future.
06/09/1998 - Sony
Japan are releasing re-mastered versions of the ELO back-catalogue over the next few
months - unfortunately, no bonus tracks or unreleased material though.
06/09/1998 - The
latest issue of the ICE newsletter reports that the ELO - Live At Winterland 1976 cd is to
be released in the U.S.A. on the 27th September on the 'Purple Pyramid' label. More
details to follow shortly.

just remembered another compilation cassette featuring an ELO track - it was given away
free with the July 1994 issue of Q magazine here in the U.K. called 'Freewheeling' and
featured 14 tracks from the Nice Price range of Sony UK products - the ELO track being
'Dont Bring Me Down' from the 'Greatest Hits Volume 2' cd.
25/08/1998 - ** INFO REQUIRED ** - I am
looking for information regarding two ELO compilation cd's both called 'Roll Over
Beethoven' which were released in Holland towards the end of 1997. I have a copy released
by Disky (Cat No DC864272) which features 12 tracks from ELO's early beginnings but I
would like to know what tracks feature on another release of the same name on the
Musicrama label (Cat No 600512). If anybody has this compilation could you please e-mail
me the track listing and also scanned images of the inlay artwork if possible.
