Tour Dates
page with more gigs in the USA for July just announced. Check with the
venues first to ensure the gigs are still on.
04/06/2000 - I
have just obtained a very interesting 'new' bootleg recording which from what I
can gather is the earliest known live recording of ELO currently known about. It
is a complete recording of one of ELO's first gigs at Guildford Civic Hall on
7th May 1972. The recording is in reasonably good, clear sound quality also
considering the age of it and also how it was recorded on a Philips Cassette
Recorder with the mic stuffed down the persons coat sleeve!!. What is also
interesting is that Jeff's lyrics on "From the Sun to the World" and
"In Old England Town" are completely different to the first album
"ELO / No Answer" so the lyrics must have been re-written before the
album was recorded!!! Track listing.....10538 Overture, Queen Of The Hours (with
extended piano solo), From The Sun To The World (Boogie 1), 1st Movement, Dear
Elaine, Great Balls Of Fire, In Old England Town (Boogie 2). The gig lasts about
40 minutes and includes between track banter plus the long delays between
tracks!!!!!
03/06/2000 - Another
'bootleg' cd featuring ELO live back in 1973 has surfaced in Japan. It is called
'New World Rising' and presumably contains tracks recordd in London &
Portsmouth.
03/06/2000 - Jeff
Lynne is getting some exposure from a couple of movies currently on show
throughout the UK and Europe. Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo features his 1990 track
'Lift Me Up', whilst Maybe Baby includes the Jeff Lynne-produced, Paul
McCartney-performed title track.
03/06/2000 - According
to Rob Caiger at 'FTM Towers', there are plans for a Jeff Lynne Tribute Album in
the works. This project was instigated in part by Hans Rotenberry of U.S. band
The Shazam. Hopefully more details of artists, tracks and record label will be
known shortly.
29/05/2000 - Also as part of the BBC Music Live event, in the BBC
Midlands area, there was a programme featuring Roy Wood being interviewed and
singing a couple of tracks live at Ronnie Scott's in Birmingham on 25th May.
Records played were The Move's 'Blackberry Way', ELO with '10538 Overture', plus
Roy's two live tracks, 'California Man' and 'Kiss Me Goodnight Bodecia'.
29/05/2000 - As part of the BBC Music Live 24 hour special, Bev Bevan,
Carl Wayne, The Shazam & Ocean Colour Scene performed a live version of The
Move's classic song 'I Can Hear The Grass Grow' live at Abbey Road studios at
3:30 this afternoon. Later in the day on BBC Radio London, Bev, Carl & The
Shazam performed 'Beautiful Daughter' and then commented on various aspects of
their careers.
23/05/2000 - Check out the sound-clips page to listen to a very
interesting reworking of 'Overture' from ELO Part 2's album 'Moment Of Truth' .
Please let me know what your thoughts are on this track.
23/05/2000 - ELO Part 2's management group have registered the domain name
'Orkestra.net' as of May 10th. But according to the guys, this has been done
only IF!! the band need to change their name. However, the band are not happy
with that particular name and definitely will not be using it.
20/05/2000 - A new sound-clip has been added today - 'Time After Time'
by ELO from the album 'Secret Messages'.
go to the sound clips page.
07/05/2000 - A new ELO Part 2 website at
http://elo2.co.uk
should be up and running very shortly, according to the bands production
manager, Greg Szabo.
07/05/2000 - There are now 23 different midi files randomly selected to
play on entering the main index page.
07/05/2000 - Check out the
Reviews section for
details of a new bootleg 2cdr set featuring ELO Part 2. Called 'Over London Skies', it
has 23 audience recorded tracks from shows in Atlantic City, Maddies PA &

03/05/2000 - The following statement has been issued by ELO Part 2's
management..................
Press Release - 4 May 2000 World Entertainment Associates
'To all our fans...
Electric Light Orchestra Part II is in its tenth year of touring. As
everyone knows, Bev Bevan one of the founding members resigned from the band. We wish him nothing but the best in his future musical and personal
plans.
As everyone may have read, Bev feels that his resignation signifies the end
of Electric Light Orchestra Part II. The others members disagree and are continuing to work, undisturbed, as they have for many, many years past.
As is further known, a dispute has arisen between Jeff Lynne and the members
of Electric Light Orchestra Part II. Mr. Lynne contends certain things and Electric Light Orchestra Part II contend certain things. The long and the
short of it is that Electric Light Orchestra Part II has clearly been it's own band, toured during a period of time, years after ELO was disbanded and
holds themselves out to be people who have composed many new songs which are regularly performed for their fans. All recordings by Electric Light
Orchestra Part II are clearly labelled in their artwork. All other items are too. As with any musical group, Electric Light Orchestra Part II cannot be
responsible for the actions of mis-informed 3rd parties. The band tries to police everything as much as possible, but we always depend on fans like you
helping us to stay informed.
Jeff Lynne, the fine composer that he is, has always benefited from the
continued touring of Electric Light Orchestra Part II. In addition, to playing the Electric Light Orchestra Part II songs, they perform other
pieces which were written by Jeff Lynne and which Louis Clark and/or Mik Kaminski and/or Michael "Kelly" Groucutt had a hand in either on
the original recordings or certainly in the live shows.
You, the fans, are clearly the ones which this dispute is about. Have the
members of Electric Light Orchestra Part II ever led anyone to believe that Jeff Lynne is in the band? The answer is no. In this regard, we ask your
support. Please send an e-mail to us a info@worldentertainment.net to tell us your view on whether or not we misled anyone. The band is very conscious
of their duty to provide first class musical shows and to perform music from yesterday, today and with a look toward tomorrow.
Your support of Electric Light Orchestra Part II and all former members of
ELO is something that I am sure that we all appreciate. Speaking on behalf of the members of Electric Light Orchestra Part II, we thank you for your
continued good wishes and we hope to resolve the dispute with Jeff Lynne in such a manner so that Jeff Lynne, the fine composer and producer, will know
that all ELO fans are dedicated to his contributions - and so that Electric Light Orchestra Part II will continue to perform music by varied composers,
paying homage to one of the greatest things in life - GOOD MUSIC !
Thank you for your love and support.
Electric Light Orchestra Part II
Kelly, Mik, Lou, Eric, Parth and Gord'
03/05/2000 - The following statement has been issued by Artist Exposure
2000...
Artist Exposure 2000 Press release issued 29th April 2000:
A message from Bev Bevan to all fans & followers of ELO PART II:
"After a great deal of consideration, I have decided to disband ELO PART
II. On May 22nd 1991, ELO PART II performed their first ever show in Brighton, England. On November 13th 1999, in Atlantic City, USA, ELO
PART II made their final live appearance. So there will be no further live appearances or recordings by ELO PART II.
Electric Light Orchestra PART II therefore no longer exists and
becomes yet another piece of rock history.
It seems hard to believe, but it has been 10 years since I put
together the original line-up of ELO PART II and we began rehearsing for the band's first album and tour.
Over those years, I have had some marvellous times and met so many
interesting people. ELO PART II has literally performed hundreds of shows in dozens of different countries all over the world and
whatever the venue, we have always done our utmost to put on the best show possible. It has been a real pleasure working with all of the
various musicians in the band. Not only are they all fine players, but without exception, genuinely nice people. I have so many fond
memories of times spent on the road with the guys in the band and our great road crew.
However, with the arrival of the new Millennium, I feel that the time
is right to make a change. I would like some new challenges in my life. I am beginning to find all of this travelling rather a grind
now and frankly, I am getting tired of playing the same songs night after night. I am not sure what the future holds for me. I may join
another band, if a suitable offer were to come my way, or do some work as a session drummer. I wish to continue writing lyrics and
would also like to pursue a career on radio and TV. One day I would love to write my autobiography, but I hope and feel that there are a
few more adventures ahead of me yet, so that will not be for a few years to come.
At the moment I don't know what I will do, but I just know that the
time has come for me to do something different. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all most sincerely
for your support, warmth and friendship over the years.
I hope to see you all again sometime soon.
Thanks again.
Bye for now - Bev Bevan"
