re-recorded all my parts. Hmmm, consigned to digital heaven."

09/06/2001 - Posted by Rosemary C on the ELO Mailing List - 'ELO pass
the green baton to Christine' !! That is the three line bold heading of an
article in The Daily Telegraph - a national newspaper in
Australia. ELO's *Livin' Thing* has been
recorded by young Australian Christine Anu & is
being used in a 3 year (advertising campaign for the environment by
the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority.) A
three quarter page article with a good sized b&w picture of Mev, Richard, Hugh, Mik, Bev, Jeff and Kelly under the banner -->>>
off to the right a colour picture of Christine Anu along
with the lyrics *Sailin' away on the crest of a wave*
through to *It's Magic* and then the Chorus. EPA website -
www.livingthing.net.au
.
Simon Benson, Environment Reporter - The Daily Telegraph
06.06.01
'Most people under 30 would not remember the band Electric Light Orchestra
(ELO) - which was just as famous for their perms and beards as
their music. Just as well, claim those who have seen the
State Government's new $17 million advertising campaign
to save the environment. Premier Bob Carr, on World
Environment Day yesterday (Tues), rolled out singer Christine Anu to be
the face and voice of its education campaign to re-invigorate the people of NSW into being "green" once again.
But for those born in the 70's or before, it wasn't Anu that was of
curiosity,
it was what she was singing - ELO's so called love ballad of 1976,
Livin' Thing. It is old enough that many may think it is in fact a new
song and nothing to do with abortion - which until last year was the song's
popular interpretation.
"Well, it is now a song about the environment," said a spokesman
for the EPA. "And she sings it in in (their
spelling) Australian and contemporary way."
The EPA has commandeered the hit as the new anthem for the modern
environment.
Launched last night on television, the three year advertising campaign
starring Anu will feature on buses, billboards, television, radio and
in newspapers. (and so will the song & it's title will be splashed on each and every one of them)!! (me)
LOADS OF POLITICAL STUFF EDITED OUT HERE AND THE ARTICLE ENDS WITH...............
"I make this prediction: at the end of the 3 year campaign, there'll
hardly be a family in this state that won't know what the right
thing is when it comes to electricity conservation or
conserving water or conserving paper," Mr Carr said
at the campaign launch'.

03/02/2001 - News posted to the alt.music.elo newsgroup - "ULVER CITY,
California (Entertainment Wire) Jan. 30, 2001 - The punk band The Vandals will re-record the classic pop song
"Evil Woman" for the Columbia Pictures/Village Roadshow Pictures comedy "Saving Silverman," directed by
Dennis Dugan and starring Jason Biggs, Steve Zahn, Jack Black, Amanda Peet and Amanda Detmer.
The song will be featured in the Feb. 9 release, which traces the story of Darren Silverman (Biggs), Wayne Le Fessier (Zahn) and J.D. McNugent (Black),
who have been best friends since the fifth grade. Enter Judith (Peet), a great-looking but cold-hearted psychiatrist who digs her claws into
sweet natured Darren, snatches him from the friendship and even breaks up the trio's Neil Diamond cover band.
J.D. and Wayne try every imaginable scheme to save Darren -- and their friendship -- from this "evil woman," failing miserably. When they find out
Darren has been brainwashed into marrying Judith, the dim-witted duo decides to kidnap her and reunite Darren with his long lost love, nun-to-be Sandy Perkus
(Detmer). Neil Diamond, in his first film in 20 years, is recruited to help save the day.
The Vandals have enjoyed a career that has spanned more than 10 years. Based in
California, the band consists of vocalist Dave Quackenbush, guitarist Warren Fitzgerald, bassist Joe Escalante and drummer Josh Freese. Their latest album,
"Look What I Almost Stepped In," was released in 2000.
The Vandals' other albums include "Fear of a Punk Planet," "When in Rome Do as the Vandals," "Sweatin' to the Oldies: the Vandals Live," "Oi! to the World,"
"Live Fast, Diarrhea" and "Hitler Bad, Vandals Good." The Vandals have toured with such bands as Pearl Jam, No Doubt and Offspring.
The song "Evil Woman" was written by Jeff Lynne, leader of the popular 1970s
band Electric Light Orchestra. The song was originally recorded by ELO and
released on the band's smash 1975 LP, "Face the Music."
